Corrine Vallelonga

Corrine fell in love with the Pilates method over 7 years ago and after the birth of her second child decided to take time out from the corporate world of media and advertising to pursue her dream of studying Pilates full time.

As a graduate of Polestar Pilates, she is very passionate about the power to heal through movement; and it was during her third pregnancy when Corrine herself herniated a disc at 29 weeks (requiring hospitalisation) she gained the most significant perspective. It was at this time she first met Paul and the team at Bounce who assisted her therapy both pre and post the birth.

Corrine believes that “As painful and overwhelming as the experience was, in hindsight I am grateful for the insight and lessons I gained. Including the importance of self-care, the power of Pilates in rehabilitation and a greater capacity to empathise with clients recovering from injury”. When Corrine isn’t teaching or practicing Pilates she can be found chasing after her three kids on the northern beaches, experimenting with healthy meals for the family or furthering her studies in the Pilates method.

DeeDee Connor – KIDS Yoga &Mindfulness

DeeDee (Danielle) Connor is thrilled to be a part of the bounceRehab team as our Kids Yoga & Mindfulness Teacher. She hopes to plant seeds within children to assist them with developing healthy habits for a lifetime of wellness and happiness.

She lived in Ireland, London, New York and Massachusetts over the last decade as a professional actress. Between roles in; castles, in theatres, on film and TV, she discovered nannying, performing children’s shows, bikram yoga and meditation — and her dream was to combine her passion for children and that of creating union and connection. This was only strengthened following being diagnosed with a chronic illness – which led her to seek holistic health options and realisations regarding the power of the mind and that of creating healthy balance in life – and going where the love is. 

She moved home to Sydney (where the love of family resides!) and trained as a children’s yoga teacher and studied meditation facilitation. As a teacher she helps children learn to celebrate their bodies, minds, and spirits in fun, safe and engaging ways – reminding kids to be human-BEings, not just human-DOings!

Michael Hasson – Physio

Michael Hasson joined the bounce team of Physiotherapists back in February 2016. He compliments the bounce team by specializing in Pain Education, Pilates and Injury Management. Michael joins us from “The Sanctuary” Medical Practice in Pyrmont where he worked for 14 months.

Michael has been a physiotherapist for 9 years and loves treating sports injuries, headaches/migraines, arthritic pains, post surgical patients as well as pain that has been unresponsive from previous treatments. Michael uses a combination of treatments including pain education, physio manual therapies, massage, dry needling, sports strapping and various types of therapeutic exercise. He is an amazing Clinical Pilates physiotherapist. His classes are particularly relevant and life changing if you are one that is recovering from a diagnosed or undiagnosed “tricky” injury. Michaels clinical pilates sessions can be arranged one to one or within a small group setting. If you are experiencing regular pain and you are anxious, nervous, worried or fearful that getting back into exercise could harm you, then you are certainly in the best of hands and should attend Michaels physio treatment or clinical pilates sessions. In 2016 he started “Old Farts Pilates” for the young at heart residents of Pyrmont that are experiencing the need to improve their strength, flexibility and balance.

In Michaels spare time he enjoys playing Gaelic Football and the schooners after a game of golf. He is also a pretty funny guy and he fits in extremely well at bounceREHAB.

Michael will be working with us on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturdays.

Stuart Duff – Massage

Stuart is a very popular Remedial Massage Therapist with 9 years of experience working in the sports, medical and corporate fields. He has a great understanding of functional anatomy, injury rehab, restoring efficient muscle function, and pain reduction. For 4 years he worked with and received significant training from one of the leading sports and neuromuscular massage therapist in Australia, who over 35 years developed a Myo-Neural Release technique that delivers quick and better results through muscle and tendon manipulation.

Stuart has resolved difficult muscle injuries, nerve issues, and movement problems with athletes from almost all areas of the sporting world including top level AFL players, triathletes, golfers, tennis players, sprinters, marathon runners, cyclists, professional dancers, rugby players, and certainly not least of all, the weekend warrior.

One of the additional areas of massage Stuart specialises in, is working with expectant mothers. With extra qualified training in Pregnancy Massage he aims to reduce the discomfort, pain, and stress that can arise during all stages of the pregnancy.

Combining his passion for massage and extensive training in Remedial, Sports, and Neuromuscular techniques, Stuart is able to help with wide variety of muscle, nerve, and stress related issues.

When Stuart isn’t building houses & schools in Cambodia for poor family’s, he enjoys relaxing with friends (and a wine!) after a game of golf.

Elize Pretorius – Pilates

Elize worked in a corporate and academic environment for 20 years before fulfilling a life-long dream and passion to qualify with a Diploma in Contemporary Pilates. As a client, she has extensive experience in fitness and Pilates which was gained throughout her working career. She also holds a Doctoral Degree in Life Sciences. Her desire has always been to work with people in a meaningful way and experience the fulfilment of making a positive contribution to people’s health. Elize is passionate about working with clients requiring rehabilitation, but also doing Pilates Mat and Reformer training.

Matthew Craig – Principal

Matthew became the Founding Director of bounceREHAB in 2005. In private practice for 15 years, Matt is experienced and is considered a “Senior” Physiotherapist, having proudly completed his degree many years ago at the University of Sydney back in 2002.  Whilst already qualified and working as a Sports Physiotherapist, Matthew completed America’s prestigious CSCS (Certificate of Strength and Conditioning Specialist) exercise science qualification with Distinction at the NSCA (National Strength & Conditioning Association). Bringing together the knowledge and skill from schools of Physiotherapy, Sports Scientist, Exercise Physiology and Pain Sciences, Matthew (& bounceREHAB) received exclusive referrals from the major 7 WorkCover NSW and major 3 MAA (CTP – Car Accidents) insurance companies to assist their Injury Management and Rehabilitation programs and protocol developmant for chronic pain claimants (complex cases). In this space it was essential to have the following characteristics: compassion, empathy, sensitivity and skill set to understand that chronic pain is not the same thing as treating  and dealing with everyday common acute conditions.

His ability to ‘Explain Pain Science’ and engage those with persistent pain or acute pain sets him apart from other health practitioners. In 2012/13 he was up to the challenge, studied and qualified as a STEEL and PINC CANCER REHAB PHYSIOTHERAPIST, to help men and women pre-post (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone therapy,   surgically) with cancer to restore strength, daily function and healthy lifestyles to prevent secondary cancers.

Matt has collaborated with University of Sydney and presented his various research projects at the APA National Conference in Darling Harbour 2008 to the Occupational Health Physiotherapy Group and the International Foot and Ankle Symposium 2007 at University of Sydney alongside A/Professor Claire Hillier.

With Matt’s special interest and experience within the settings of “Occupational Pain Management” and “Return to Work Coordination” it was only a matter of time for Matt to be involved in the Corporate Wellness space. Matthew has designed and implemented a host of Corporate Wellness Packages and Early Intervention Injury Prevention Programs with a large number of companies including Kmart, NARTA, Lend Lease, ACCOR Hotels (Darling Harbour), Qantas, ABC (Sydney), Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre and Red Balloon.

Matt is a passion for delivering ongoing education. bounceREHAB hosts physiotherapy students who come to learn under Matthew and Paul’s guidance. As formal Clinical Educators, Matthew and Paul take on students all year round from the prestigious Sydney University – School of Physiotherapy. They also host international physiotherapy students (University of Missouri) and other Universities in NSW (Newcastle, Canberra, Bathurst).

Outside of work Matthews time is absorbed (hands completely tied) dancing, singing, reading and making lots of noise with his 2 young children (Indigo 7 and Violet 3). His beautiful wife is an amazing sustainability interior designer and a cook so they both exercise the passion to stay active and to eat well with no regrets. Whilst he loves a regular drop of red wine with family/friends he runs it off up the steep hills of Collaroy (or around Blackwattle Bay), with regular pilates, hot yoga or a long slow walk with Napoleon and Josephine his beloved pugs (dogs). He is a lover of music and a tragic for buying new vinyl records to play throughout the home sonos surround sound.

Matt is currently (once and for all) undertaking a Masters in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy at the University of La Trobe, Melbourne.

Jessica Whatham – Mindfulness

Jess has an overwhelming passion for health and wellness. With her depth of interest in the holistic mind body approach beginning way back when she started practicing yoga at the age of 14. Practicing yoga now for 17 years (giving away her age), Jess is certified in multi lineage yoga styles and has enjoyed teaching yoga for 8 years.

Living abroad for 10 years in London and in various cities on the East coast of the United States – settling in Miami, she eventually relocated back to the homeland, Sydney, in 2013.

Jess balances teaching yoga and mindfulness-mediation with her entrepreneurial ventures and raising her five year old daughter. Not only is she drop dead gorgeous, she is a very clever cookie. Jess has attained several University degrees including a Bachelors of Business, Bachelors of Nutrition Science and if that is not enough she is currently cranking out the final year of an MBA (Masters of Business Administration) at Sydney University Business School.

Samantha Panos – Pilates

Samantha Panos is currently completing her final year of her undergraduate physiotherapy degree at the University of Sydney. You will recognise her from bounceREHAB since her 5 week student placement there in 2016, or as the friendly physiotherapy assistant to bounceREHAB Directors/Principal Physiotherapists (Matt and Paul) on Saturdays.

Samantha has a great passion for sports as an elite aerobic gymnast, having competed in the sport for 11 years, represented Australia twice at the Asian Championships, and won Gymnastics NSW Athlete of the Year twice. She has done Pilates for the past 7 years to complement her gymnastics training, and has recently added yoga and Muay Thai kickboxing to her eclectic repertoire. Regular Pilates has been crucial for strengthening and maintaining flexibility of her most “important” muscles to help with preventing and recovering faster from injuries due to training.

Samantha has built her experience in sports physiotherapy towards bounce, having covered the Sydney Amazons and Warriors in the National Volleyball League, Sydney Olympic women’s football teams and athletes at the Sydney APIA International Wheelchair Tennis Open. She held the position of Head Sport Aerobics coach at Santa Sabina College in 2015, and has completed her Sports Trainer and APPI Pilates in 2014. On her days off, she enjoys eating ice-cream, watching the TV show Supernatural, or listening to rock music.

Samantha is a keen Pilates enthusiast who loves to experiment and play with exercises on the reformer and has a keen interest in post operative and sports related rehabilitation. With her gymnastics background, she likes to maintain a particular focus on 100% proper technique during her Pilates sessions – including correct muscle activation, as well as helping clients develop muscular endurance, flexibility, balance and core stability. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, Samantha will develop a safe but challenging individualised Pilates workout.

A/Professor Nigel Hope, MBBS, PhD, FRACS, FAOrthA

A/Prof Hope is a leading specialist in Sports Injury Medicine, Minimally Invasive Tissue Preserving Hip and Knee Surgery, knee (meniscal) surgery, osteoarthritis, hip and knee replacement. He also specialises in articular cartilage contouring to relieve pain, improve function and delay or prevent the onset of osteoarthritis.

After graduating with an MBBS from the University of Sydney, A/Professor Hope completed his PhD on the composition and repair mechanisms of the knee joint meniscus in 1994. This still remains to be the nations only PhD in the composition and repair mechansisms of the knee joint. After finishing his Orthopaedic Specialist qualifications in 2000, he undertook advanced surgical training in France and Switzerland for the direct anterior approach to hip surgery and became one of the pioneering surgeons in Australia to perform the operation.

A/Prof Hope has written for international publications on the knee joint meniscus and has been invited to speak at numerous research conferences and workshops globally.

Currently, A/Prof Hope is involved in co-authoring two textbooks on Clinical Examination and regularly presents lectures at the University of Notre Dame, Sydney.

In a recent scientific publication, A/Prof Hope examined the outcomes of minimally invasive hip fracture fixation, while his current research projects include an extensive study on the results of minimally invasive hip replacement, assessment of knee arthroscopy without tourniquet, and a review of patient specific knee replacement techniques.

A/Prof Hope sees patients at bounceREHAB on Tuesdays 2-5pm and at the Sydney Adventist Hospital in Wahroonga, where he performs all surgical operations.

Paul Dardagan – Principal

Paul is a Director of bounceREHAB and is passionate about working within a multidisciplinary framework. He works closely with specialists from many fields which include but are not limited to orthopaedic surgeons, general practitioners, neurosurgeons, pain specialist, massage therapists, nutritionists, dietetics, naturopaths, pilates-yoga instructors, sports physicians, coaches and personal trainers. Paul ensures that bounceREHAB is a multidisciplinary practice with a focus on all disciplines within health and wellbeing.

Paul’s qualifications include a Masters of Physiotherapy, Bachelor of Coaching Science and a Postgraduate Certificate in Human Movement Science with a focus on Strength and Conditioning. He is currently undertaking further studies through La Trobe University in Melbourne with a double Masters in Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy.

Paul’s love of sports sparked his interest in physiotherapy. He was previously involved in key roles at numerous rugby clubs in the ACT as head physiotherapist, and has years of coaching experience in rugby union where he also played a major role with the strength and conditioning of the players. Paul was responsible for implementing the South Sydney Rabbitohs Academy Program which requires a combination of Physiotherapy and Strength and Conditioning development.

Paul also has a special interest in Corporate Wellness and Occupational Pain Management along with co-director Matthew Craig. Colleen Nichols – Massage

Colleen decided to become a Massage Therapist after working with Physiotherapists and Massage Therapists. She saw first hand how much it could truly heal people. It was the only type of treatment that worked for her personally on her experience of migraines, back and neck pain. After her own therapeutic experiences, Colleen realised her own passion to help people by providing this type of healing to the community and beyond.

Colleen’s career has seen her working in administration as both secretary and personal assistant for many prestigious companies such as Integral Energy, Fairfax Media, Rural Press and Novartis Pharmaceuticals to name a few.

Colleen has been happily helping and healing people using her extensive knowledge of human anatomy, physiology with the appreciation for our ever changing psychological states. She is able to precisely predict the necessary depths of the massage to fit your need on the day.

Jack Rayment – Physio

Jack Rayment is a physiotherapist who graduated with a Masters of Physiotherapy from The University of Sydney. Jack has developed a strong background in biomechanics and physiology through his undergraduate studies in Health Science, majoring in Human Movement, also at The University of Sydney.

Jack possesses a wide range of clinical experience, from remote New South Wales to far north India. Working in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team in hospitals and small clinics in such varying contexts has had compounding benefits for his professional and personal life.

Jack plays an active role in the community. He was Student Representative for the Masters of Physiotherapy cohort in the Faculty of Health Sciences and participated in mediating seminars for leading Australian Physiotherapy researchers. Jack is also active in the sporting community, working as a sports trainer and physiotherapist for local sporting teams, including first grade competition.  

Outside of his professional endeavors, Jack enjoys playing squash, is an avid podcast listener (particularly in the fields of social science and economics) and is a keen trekker, travelling locally and in internationally, meeting the challenge of conquering new landscapes. 

Jack’s academic achievements are matched by his creativity, innovative approach to problem-solving and his commitment to community health and wellbeing. He grasps conquering the challenges of professional excellence in the same way he does the challenges of conquering some of the world’s toughest treks.

Sarah Large – Pilates

Sarah is an energetic and friendly bounce team member, who is currently completing her Bachelor of Applied Science – Physiotherapy at the University of Sydney. She plans to graduate in 2017 with Honours, completing her research in the field of physiotherapy’s role in chronic lung disease. She is a Student Ambassador for the University Faculty of Health Science, a mentor for various University programs and a Student Representative for her cohort on the Student Consultation Committee.

Sarah’s interest in becoming a physiotherapist is a result of many years of dancing combined with her passion for learning about the human body, fitness and of course her compassion for helping others. Sarah believes that a multidisciplinary approach to care is the key to providing the most holistic patient-centered care and this is why she is so passionate about what goes on at bounceREHAB. Her background of both performing and teaching dance, has led Sarah to develop an eye for correct technique, posture and muscle activation when teaching her pilates classes. Having completed a five-week placement block as a part of her degree at bounceREHAB in 2016, Sarah was exposed to the effect of clinical pilates on rehabilitation for all injuries and in particular to the important role it plays in reducing back pain. Sarah can help you with a range of things including: admin enquiries, MindBody enquiries, booking appointments, purchasing of equipment and product knowledge, student physiotherapy advice and clinical pilates.

In her spare time, Sarah enjoys running, water skiing, reading and eating chocolate. Sarah joins us at bounceREHAB on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Kathryn Edwards – Pilates

Kathryn is seriously the best Pilates Instructor in Australia. Kathryn completed her Pilates teacher training & certification at the Elixr School of Pilates for both Reformer and Mat Pilates. In addition to her qualifications for teaching the traditional methods of Pilates (i.e Mat & Reformer), Kathryn is rated as the best Barre Attack instructor in Sydney.

She has been practising Pilates for well over 10 years, and is passionate about sharing her knowledge and experience with her clients. Practicing Pilates herself through 2 pregnancies, and since completing her qualification in Pre/Post Natal Pilates, she has enjoyed teaching other mums the Pilates principles that will safely assist them through their physical changes. We offer Pre/Post Natal Clinical Pilates at bounceREHAB as a result of medical research (and our physio background) strongly supporting the importance for women pre-post pregnancy being engaged in pilates and exercise.

Kathryn’s classes provide a fun, vibrant, dynamic, informed and challenging workout that is tailored to all levels of fitness and experience, focusing on precise movement and alignment. She is available for 1 on 1 or our intimate 1 to 4 and up to 1 to 50 for corporate sessions.

In her time away from the studio, Kathryn enjoys a healthy lifestyle, loves to be outdoors and to cook healthy meals for her two beautiful girls and husband.

Caroline Zanelli – Nutrition

Caroline is a highly reputable nutritionist with a degree in Nutritional Medicine and Psychology. She has recently been awarded a research scholarship by Endeavour College of Natural Health to investigate which nutrients are essential to reduce the risk of chronic disease and/or improve the overall outcome of the disease. Caroline also dedicates one day a week to the MINDD Foundation, a non for profit organization which helps both patients and practitioners understand and implement effective nutritional treatments for metabolic, immunologic, neurologic, digestive and developmental conditions that often affect the mind. Caroline receives many GP referrals for weight loss assistance, depression & anxiety, auto-immune conditions, respiratory conditions, cardiac and vascular conditions (to reduce risk factors such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc), brain health (parkinsons, dementia), osteoporosis, fractures and bone health. Running low in good gut bacteria due to use of antibiotics is also a common referral to see a Nutritionist.

Whilst studying for her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in the UK, she worked in research at Kings College London in the Psychological Medicine department. Now Caroline combines her knowledge of psychology with nutrition to help understand and change peoples approach and attitudes towards food, lifestyle and overall wellbeing. She works closely with our team of Physiotherapists in enhancing the recovery process following injury. Patients report accelerated reduction in their pain levels, inflammation size, swelling timeframe and increase their functional capacity.

Caroline has worked with the Stephanie Alexander “Kitchen Garden Program” where she demonstrated and educated children on the benefits of cooking with the seasonal produce that they grew in their school garden. Caroline is also heavily involved in bounceREHAB’s Corporate Wellness Health and Wellbeing Programs. She is a talented presenter of Nutritional Health topics and is always keen to run Corporate Cooking Workshops and Team Talks.

When Caroline isn’t at work she is experimenting in the kitchen developing new recipes and throwing dinner parties for friends. Caroline regularly practices yoga, pilates and loves hanging out at the beach, working on those all important Vitamin D levels!

Jeff Stewart – Podiatrist

PODIATRIST:

Jeff graduated from La Trobe University in Melbourne with a Bachelor of Podiatry. He has a passion for working in a multidisciplinary team of allied health professionals to achieve best results and has worked as a Podiatrist in private practice across Sydney.

Having grown up in Melbourne sport has always been in Jeff’s blood. Growing up he played any sport he possibly could. This was where Jeff’s interest in biomechanics (movement sciences) began and led to him pursuing a career in podiatry.

Jeff is a member of The Australian Podiatry Association, Sports Medicine Australia (SMA) and also the Australasian Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine (AAPSM). He regularly attends conferences and seminars all over the world to keep up with the latest research. Jeff will use the latest innovation and technology when assessing and treating your lower limbs/feet and for the prescribing of orthotics and footwear.

In his spare time Jeff enjoys anything sport especially AFL. He also enjoys traveling and seeing all that the world has to offer.

Vanessa Rodriguez – Yoga

Practicing for over twenty years and teaching internationally for over a decade, Vanessa joins the Bounce team with a wealth of experience in all styles and traditions of Yoga.  Her classes will be a breath-centered hybrid of the many styles she has learned, from Iyengar and Ashtanga to Power Vinyasa Flow and its many derivatives.  Classes are alignment focused and build upon basics catering to ALL body types, shapes, ages and ability.  For those will an ongoing or more progressive practice, a clear pathway toward strength building and focused intention is always offered.  Her classes are intuitive and fused with feeling.  While many of her classes can be mentally and physically challenging, Vanessa still offers a softer version of the too often taught one-size fits all mainstream Power and Flow classes found in Sydney.

 Vanessa has also studied many forms of bodywork and Chinese Medicine, including Shiatsu and various Craniosacral Therapy modalities.  She favors a Visionary and Biodynamic approach to both touch and yoga practice.  Vanessa specializes in Yoga Therapy and Family Practice.  She works with women trying to conceive and has taught Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga for the last decade.  She is leading her first Yoga Teacher Trainings this year and creating a pathway for teachers wanting to work with different populations.  Her first trainings are Yoga Australia and Yoga Alliance recognized Postgraduate courses in Pre and Postnatal Yoga.  She is also offering a 150-hour Yin and Restorative Yoga Teacher Training.  Upcoming trainings will cover a wide range of therapeutic yoga from Trauma and Life-Sensitive Yoga to Yoga for Cancer and Chronic Illness.

 She will host workshops and teach regularly in our dedicated yoga and Pilates space and we look forward to seeing you.

Vanessa maintains that as the body is daily under varying stresses, and that the body’s chemistry and physiology weekly and yearly change, As it is clear change is the only constant.
